Carrollton, TX — The city of Carrollton denied a bill for the reprinting of bridge railings and adopted a standard of Care ordinance for the new summer camp they’ll administer in the summer of 2019.

The worksession discussion brought about the ‘Standards of Care’ ordinance, which will adopt a series of rules and regulations for the city of Carrollton as they prepare to host summer camps again. Camp Wonder will be located at Crosby Recreation Center, 1610 East Crosby Road, Carrollton, TX 75006.

The addition of a summer camp in the city of Carrollton will also bring in more season jobs for teens in the city. Camp leaders have to be 17 or older to work in the summer camp. Youth ages 5 to 12 are welcomed to join Camp Wonder.

Place 4 councilmember, Frances Cruz, motioned for the approval of the ordinance regarding the summer cap.

“In the spirit of a fun summer camp, I’ll second the motion.” councilmember Babick said.

Cruz took a moment to thank the staff who’s working to prepare for the summer camps.

“It is something we use to offer as a city,” Cruz said. “As the cost of childcare increases, our citizens are struggling, especially over the summer months when kids are not in school.”

Having a summer camp within city limits can save money for parents in the proximity of Carrollton. The summer camp does not have a sign-up list yet, but the staff is working to produce one.

During the first-hour worksession councilmembers exchanged a heavy conversation on item 10, refurbishment of the bridge railing. The issue with the restoration of the bridge railing came when the amount of $211,700.00, appeared to stand out as a large amount to Place One Councilman, Steve Babick.

Councilman Babick sought after an answer as to how long the paint would endure on the railing. For a large amount of money with only one bid and no definite answer as too how long the paint could hold up, Councilman Babick grew urgingly in wanting to deny the motion once in chambers.

Councilmembers agreed with council Babick, they too wanted to wait until the city had more bid offers, and possibly some with a lower cost. During the city council meeting, the motion was denied by every council member. The council will set a date and revisit this issue in six months.

The Council generally meets the first and third Tuesday of each month in the City Council Chamber on the second floor at City Hall, 1945 E. Jackson Road, Carrollton, Texas 75006.
